About
OldTestamentHelp.com exists to equip the Church (God's people) to better understand the Old Testament. The Bible is the most purchased book throughout history. It is read by billions of people and yet most would admit they are confused by certain verses or entire books. The stakes are too high to miss out on God's self-revelation. We pray that this website empowers you to encounter God in a fresh way.

Author
These resources were created by M. Matt Gavelek, PE, MA, a Bible teacher and professional engineer, who has a unique ability to break down the complexity of Scripture into simple concepts that empowers Christians to understand the Bible. He has preached itinerantly for over 20 years, holds a Master of Arts [Biblical Studies] from Moody Theological Seminary, and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Purdue University. Matt and his lovely wife Mercy can often be spotted in the wild with their 4 energetic children at the Indiana Dunes National Park.
Theological Approach
The resources on Old Testament Help.com reflect a protestant, Christian view of the Old Testament. Our goal is to equip the Church (God's people) by drawing upon the field of biblical studies, not to win arguments about secondary theological distinctives. We employ a faith-based approach and do not dive into various forms of criticism. The primary defining theological distinctive of our resources is a high view of scripture. Most protestant Christians would agree with the content and many Catholics have been edified by the material as well, even though the deuterocanonical OT texts are omitted from our materials.
If you are still reading, you are looking for better definition. For example, Chapter 2 of the O.T. Breakthrough study covers redemptive history. It utilizes Michael Bird's Six Acts approach which simply presents the canonical order of the major redemptive plot of the Bible, but does not seek to make systematic theological assertions about covenantal or dispensational frameworks. The best way to associate the content on this website with a tradition is to list several publishers cited in our resources: Zondervan Academic, Eerdmans, Crossway, IVP Academic and Baker Academic.
